Springfield Council PTA

Springfield Council of PTAs brings together local PTAs across Springfield Public Schools to strengthen family engagement, support PTA leaders, and advocate for the well-being of every child. By working collaboratively, local PTAs are able to share resources, amplify their voices, and create district-wide impact.

A council is a group of local PTA units working together to better support children. By planning and collaborating as a team, councils can accomplish more than any single PTA unit could on its own.

Local PTAs do powerful work within their individual school communities. SCPTA exists to connect those efforts so they have greater reach and impact.

Working together allows us to share ideas, support one another, and lead initiatives that impact students and families across the entire district – things that no single PTA could accomplish alone.

Springfield Council PTA traces its roots to 1913 with the Boyd Elementary Mothers’ Circle, one of the first organized parent groups in Springfield. Early members focused on improving student health and safety, including access to clean water, better sanitation, and healthier school environments.

Over time, this work grew into what is now the Springfield Council of PTAs (SCPTA), the coordinating and support organization for PTA and PTSA units across Springfield Public Schools. SCPTA has proudly served students and families in our community for more than 100 years.

One of SCPTA’s longest-standing initiatives is the PTA Clothing Bank, founded in the early 1930s as a community clothing drive. Through partnerships with local organizations, it became a permanent program and continues to provide clothing for thousands of Springfield Public Schools students each year.
